It can be a long process turning an idea into a design and then getting that design approved by the planning department. Only at the end of that process can you actually start building and that is the point we are at with several properties.
Construction started in May on a barn conversion in the Mole Valley, Surrey. We first became involved in 2013. The completed design, agreed with Mole Valley District Council, utilises the structure and ambiance of the old neglected barns but creates a modern living experience, incorporating five ensuite bedrooms.
In Nutley, East Sussex, construction has just begun on the replacement for a 1930s bungalow in the High Weald AONB. This design will create a modern living space, taking full advantage of the fabulous views over the Ashdown Forest.
Finally, we are pleased to announce that another of our projects has reached a pivotal moment – the rainwater harvesting tank has been installed at the Old Reservoir Site in Maresfield. This is an important part of this environmentally sustainable project, which will see a disused reservoir turned into a Modernist home.
Working in AONB and on old buildings takes patience and time but, as these projects show, you can achieve some amazing results if you understand the planning constraints and work with both the client and the local authority.
